What do you think of when someone mentions dandelions?  Many people think of a terrible weed that attempts to invade their yard every year.  Dandelions are enemies to them.  I’m hoping to change the way most people see this amazing plant.  It isn’t an enemy, and it can be a great tool if you use it correctly.

Dandelion Root Tea is the primary form of one of the most popular herbal teas, Dandelion Tea.  This tea is made with the roots of the dandelion plant.  It is also known as Dandelion Coffee due to its dark appearance.  The tea has gained popularity due to recent studies documenting the significant benefits of consuming this tea.  One of the most exciting areas of study deals with the cancer-fighting potential.

Selecting Dandelion Roots

I don’t recommend picking wild dandelions and using their roots unless you can 100% guarantee that they haven’t been treated with pesticides or pooped/peed on.  I suggest using raw organic Dandelion Roots in loose tea form.  Loose tea means that the roots are not in tea bags.  Raw loose tea is the freshest and has the best health benefits.  You can also find tea bags that contain raw dandelion roots, but most tea bags contain roasted roots.

Dandelion Root Tea Recipe

Dandelion Root Tea is an extremely healthy herbal tea that is primarily used for kidney and liver health.  It is a diuretic and antioxidant, meaning it helps your body detoxify by producing more urine while fighting free radicals.  This helps remove harmful toxins As stated above, in-vitro studies have also shown that it helps fight cancer.  Here is a simple Dandelion Root Tea Recipe.

Ingredients for 2 Servings

3 Tablespoon of Dandelion Roots (see my review of the best Dandelion Root Brands)

4 Cups of Filtered Water

Honey or Alternate Sweetener (to taste)

Step 1:  Place the 4 Cups of filtered water into a pot and bring it to a boil.

Step 2: Add 3 Tablespoons of Dandelion Roots and reduce heat to allow the roots to steep/simmer for 2-3 minutes.

Step 3: Pour the tea through a strainer to remove any debris and pour into your desired tea cup(s).  Add your honey or desired sweetener to taste.

Step 4: Slowly stir while you allow the tea to cool for 2-3 minutes.  Your Dandelion Coffee is now ready to consume, enjoy!

Poppy seed tea is one of the most popular forms of herbal tea.  It has been used for thousands of years and serves several benefits.  One concern for poppy tea drinkers is whether or not drinking or eating poppy seeds can cause you to fail a drug test.  This post will go into detail discussing this topic.  You can learn everything about poppy seed tea here.

Will Poppy Seed Tea Make You Fail a Drug Test

Since poppy seed tea is made with poppy seeds from the opium poppy plant (Papaver somniferum), drinkers are consuming opiates when they consume this tea.  When you consume any form of poppy tea, you are consuming several opiate alkaloids.  If you take a drug test within 48 hours of drinking the poppy seed tea, you may actually test positive for opiates and fail you drug test.  If you have a drug test after 48 hours, you have a much lower chance of testing positive.

It is possible for the drug testing companies to differentiate whether or not your positive drug test is due to consuming poppy seeds versus other forms of opiates.  Poppy seeds contain a larger number of alkaloids, and they also contain different amounts of these alkaloids when compared to other opiates.  If care is taken, they will be able to determine that you consumed poppy seeds and didn’t consume other opiates such as pain meds or heroin.

What to Do With a Failed Drug Test

If you do end up failing your drug test, it is probably best to talk to the drug testing company and tell them that you consumed poppy seeds prior to taking the test.  It is not illegal to consume poppy seeds in the United States, so employers cannot take action against you for consuming these seeds.  As I stated above, the drug testing companies have the ability that your positive test is actually due to consuming poppy seeds versus other opiates.  They just need to take the time to analyze you sample closely.
